Just a timely reminder that the Commodities Boom did not cover the entire period of the Howard/Costello years in power.They took over from a Federal Government with a massive Deficit BEFORE the commodities boom. They turned it around inspite of:

- The Ansett debacle;

- 9/11, which for a while, had a deleterious effect on the world economy;

- the SE Asian Economic Crisis;

- the East Timor Intervention;

- the Terrorist attack on Australians (and other nationalities)in Bali;

- the flood of 'illegals';

- Gun control. Would Rudd or Julia have had the guts to confront a crowd of angry farmers and introduce gun control?

I wonder what Rudd and his entourage would have done if his Government had encountered such a multitude of problems. He probably would have caught the nearest plane to the UN and screamed for help!
