What would be the best strategy to stop people investing in alternative energies (e.g. oil sands)?

You must SCARE them with a low oil price!

If people are scared about a high oil price the put some of their money in alternative energy, solar, wind, ethanol, etc. THAT will have an effect on the oil price. Producing oil from oil sands costs around $30 a barrel, as far as I can remember. Lord Browne´s (BP) intention is obvious, you have to stop people investing in alternatives in the first place:"In the long run it could even be $25 to $30."

Or is he a complete moron: “The price of oil will come down. So don´t think about investing in BP, sell, sell, sell!”
