The National Gas Infrastructure Plan is due to be finalised and released as early as the end of February by the Government. This has forced John Barilaro to formally announce his decision regarding the PEP-11 permits. As Federal Minister, Keith Pitt is the sole person who makes the decision regarding the permit. Keith Pitt has stated multiple times that he supports the gas led recovery, jobs, exploration and new infrastructure.
There are several news broadcasts where he actively promotes gas and downplays concerns that politicians and east coast locals have regarding PEP-11. With the support of Scott Morrison (PM), Angus Taylor (Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction) and Josh Frydenberg (Treasurer and Deputy Leader), it is highly likely that the permit will be renewed. Previously, the state JA member has rejected the proposal with the federal member overriding the decision, this will mark the third time it occurs.
PEP-11 exploration will be carried out due to the following factors: -Gas Fired Recovery -Emission Reduction Targets -Carbon Capture and Storage -East Coast Gas Shortage -5.7 TCF - 13.2 TCF of Gas Reserves -Multibillion dollar potential after exploration. -Advent/BPH have appointed a contracts manager, rig operator, raised cash and have acknowledged government targets for net-zero emissions.
