I now we're both after the same result - approval of PEP 11 - but I see it a bit differently.
Pitt is on the public record as having voted for Joyce.
He also took the lead role last week in attacking the PM's 2050 zero target, which would have earned him the wrath of Libs in the Cabinet. My feeling is that he was truly pissed off - or he knew Barnaby was coming to town and he had to take on an attack dog role to shore up his portfolio with the Nats.
I am open to the idea that Pitt might be more environmentally friendly than we think but he is consistently on record as fighting for coal and recently he blocked funding for several environmental projects. That was beforethe Joyce coup, so I expect him to be stronger in his views, not weaker.
Barnaby has shown he is prepared to like up to his maverick reputation. The Libs cannot afford him to play this role as Deputy PM.
So they will be negotiating with him now.
I guess we will both know in the coming weeks if PEP 11 is on the table as part of those political dealings. My money says it is!
