There is no need for you to break it down for me, just like there's no need for you to be soooo patronizing. This is an opinion piece written by a freelance journalist, not a mathematics equation where there is only one right answer. There are many ways to interpret it and one of the ways I do, is that the writer is emphasizing the hypocrisy of 'the privileged NIMBY protesters of the Northern Beaches and Central Coast" who cry foul at the prospect of having an exploration well in their backyard, and yet who are happy enough to continue enriching their own lifestyles with products derived from oil and gas that have been produced elsewhere in Australia. To oppose drilling for the sake of 3 marginal seats would entail that the whole economy loses out, which is likely to make people elsewhere resentful.
