They are in an interesting quandary at the moment. Lucy Wicks and crew are asking for KP to decide the application to get rid of it, this is instead of participating in the legislation proposed (which is a flawed attempt for a number of reasons).

But if KP decides the first application in the negative, there is still the case of the second application that keeps the approval on foot.

Thus they send a message to the local community to try and buy a couple of votes, but considering the time taken the damage is probably already done in the sense of voters. They then go against their whole mining narrative and demonstrate to the private and public businesses investing in exploration that if the community is loud enough, it doesn't matter on the merits of your proposal and how much it aligns with your key policy set. Politics takes precedence, which is contrary to their whole messaging.

So no matter what, this is an election issue for LNP they cant seem to escpae.
