Hi Paul, there are a few errors in your post that need correcting.
Firstly, at the depth of 3150m, carbon is denser than water hence it cannot "seep back" out of the seas bed. It is why the drill depth has been set at 3150m.
Secondly, it means DB's statement is a good statement, not a bad statement.
Thirdly, the NSW Government did not explore for CCS potential in Commonwealth waters.
Fourthly, the Sydney Basin comprises two distinct areas, the "offshore" basin, and the "onshore" basin. The NSW Government did explore the onshore area (as it was within their jurisdiction) but as you point out did not find any CCS compatibility. They have now moved West to the Cobar/Wilcannia area where they may have better luck in the Darling Basin. None of that is relevant to PEP11 where Prof Cook is very confident about the Baleen Prospect which is currently untested.
