There's been lots of speculation lately. Some are saying pep11 is dead in the water, others think negotiations are happening behind the scenes. Maybe it is just a matter of the government needing another week to assemble their 'air tight' case or to google what Pep11 actually is.

Honestly I wish David would just cut through the fog say it plainly "Let us drill. If there's no gas wrap up the title and move on. If there is gas, then we can have the real debate - do we extract or not. "

That's the grown up conversation we should be having. Not endless speculation, not political theatre. Just facts, data and decisions based on what's actually under the seabed.

At least now we've got some kind of timeline, and the next milestone is only days away. But let's be honest we've been here before. Every time it feels like we are on the edge of clarity something new crops up to stretch the process out even further. If history's any guide then I wouldn't be surprised if a 'fresh development' or another layer of consultation lands just in time to kick the can again. It's hard not to feel like confidence is wearing thin and patience even thinner. My eyes are on what happens next - not with optimism but with a cautious hope that this time it might be different.
