This study relates more to a small molecule drug in Phase 1/2 trails and its effects on neuroblastoma cells. What is interesting though is that whilst this drug was somewhat effective at suppressing the gene, shRNA caused massive apoptosis. They then go on to say that if another shRNA knocks down another gene thought to limit the productivity of the small molecule drug, it becomes up to 695 times for effective.

Why not just forget the small molecule drug altogether if you can't get it to work well without shRNA, and shRNA by itself works just fine?
