Immune signatures predict "long COVID" risk

Immunoglobulin signature predicts risk of post-acute COVID-19 syndrome (Nature Communications)

This research improved on an existing prediction method by incorporating total IgM and total IgG3 antibody levels. "Reliable identification of high-risk patients not only allows precise recommendation of early medical consultations but also facilitates the study of preventive treatment strategies, such as the use of inhaled corticosteroids in asthmatic and non-asthmatic patients and possibly intravenous Ig therapies."

While this study measured total IgM and IgG3, an even more detailed understanding of the disease and its progression could be revealed by identifying and measuring antibodies to specific SARS-CoV-2 epitopes. This is the realm of precision immunology.
