It depends on the circumstances.
If at the time BRN did not have a deal they could announce because it wasn't signed, then if the deal was signed the day after they could hold their hands their hearts and say "we didn't answer incorrectly."
Just as a mysterious rise in share price (triggering an ASX price query) is not necessarily an indicator of imminent news, telling the ASX "we can see no reason for the share price rise" is also not necessarily an indicator of no imminent news.
