Did people leave because of the sticky post or the spam attack? They both occurred at the same time so it's hard to isolate the exact trigger. Maybe it was the combination?
Last time a spam attack occured people were considering of moving back then. My guess is this latest spam attack is what tipped them over. People just don't like having their community disrupted for 18 hour blocks. I don't.
I've been trying to understand the impact of having a smaller audience just on these threads, looking at the # of views the 2022 discussion thread had since the start of the year. Maybe my estimates are wrong? Not sure what % increase the ad placement optimisations would give over the standard product either, but it looks like this is a rough guide:
