BrainChip Hardware and IBM's TrueNorth

  1. 75 Posts.
IBM has actually been working on Neural Network chips for 22 years
    http://techcrunch.com/2015/01/31/the-ongoing-quest-for-the-brain-chip/
"...a class of neuromorphic chip has been available since 1993. That year, a small independent team approached IBM...became the world’s first commercially available neuromorphic chip...many of the issues surrounding the slow adoption of neuromorphic chips have never been technical, the issues stem from a lack of belief...A technology that can be taught (yes that’s right, not programmed, taught)..."

However, Learning does not happen on the TrueNorth chip. IBM's TrueNorth uses code (corelets) developed by programmers in a Software development environment which simulates the TrueNorth hardware. These corelets are then loaded onto the TrueNorth.

"...there is no learning happening on chip,” says Nayaran Srinivasa, a researcher at HRL Laboratories...While the implementation does happen on TrueNorth, all the learning happens off-line, on traditional computers..."

A starting point for reading about IBM's tech,

I continue to be surprised by the people who can't work out the potential value in AZK & BrainChip shares. On the one hand you have the Mining Asset sales, on the other you have the potential of the Brainchip.

Peter has a history of Developing and Selling IT Patents, Hardware and Software (notable that some of them were bought by IBM). He found that Neural Network software implementations were too slow and has focused on hardware development. In IT, Hardware & Software are usually interchangeable. Look at SoftPC which which started out by virtualising a whole Windows PC in Mac Software. These days VMWare & Microsoft emulate PCs using Software together with Hardware Virtualisation features built-into today's CPUs because it's faster than a pure software solution. Those Virtualisation features were ADDED to CPUs because there's money in Virtualising PCs & Servers. What would people have said about that possibility when SoftPC first appeared on Macs?

Peter has implemented his Proof Of Concept using FGPAs, which are a form of reconfigurable hardware
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field-programmable_gate_array
"...FPGAs...have come to rival corresponding ASIC and ASSP solutions...re-configuration 'on-the-fly'. Where previously a design may have included 6 to 10 ASICs, the same design can now be achieved using only one FPGA..."

The next step is to move his designs to purpose-built Chips.

I've done my research & AZK's currently over 6 times the price it was at the time of this posting. While this is a speculative stock, I have no plans to sell any time soon.
