The advances in computing systems over the last few decades (Moore's rule) has allowed human technology to increase at an enormous rate - A positive feedback loop. Moore's rule is now almost up against a hard limit in physics, and that limit is the ever increasing flow of electrons in a chip.
With every increase in computing capacity/speed there is the matter of more power (energy) to be supplied and more heat (energy) to be managed. As heat increases, resistance within the chip also increases, this impedes electron flow so more power is required, more power = more heat. This is also a positive feedback loop although now it is working humanity because we are at the hard limit of physics. So unless/until we discover other ways of commuting, like quantum computing, were stuck.
Quatum computing, like fusion power, will certainly be available to humanity in the future, but not for some time. So the obvious answer to our computing problems is to greatly and rapidly optimise our existing computing systems, and the answer to doing that is Ai. It is also very likely that the successful implementation of a usable fusion energy source for humanity will be due to Ai.
