PCR tests are generally considered better at detecting the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and are currently the gold standard for diagnosis of COVID-19. PCR assays typically take several hours (including specimen processing time) to generate results, and require complex laboratory equipment and trained technicians.

PCR tests are supposed to be the gold standard, so big problems if they are now considered sub par.
I looked at how they are done and the method is highly convoluted, but apparently well documented for previous applications..

What will be the "new" gold standard, if this is the case?
