I fully agree. In my opinion the best thing we can do is not respond to such posters. HC is a bit like the wild west not replying avoids a poster doing, potentially, as much damage as the original combatant.
I know this is never going to happen as some can't resist biting back but what you propose is the best solution.
Though I have to confess when being derogatory to such well regarded posters as Cate, I have been tempted to reply.
