From what I can gather it seems that reactors five and six at the Fukushima nuclear facility are in cold shutdown, which means they are safe and stable. Power has been restored to unit two and they are planning on extending power to unit one today. Things are looking decidedly better than they were for much of last week. The spent fuel rods in reactors three and four are still being hosed down but that seems to be working with temperatures topping only 100 degrees thus far. I�m led to believe that the zirconium that encases the uranium oxide fuel pellets can withstand temperatures of about 2200 degrees before they rupture and release radioactive materials. So far so good.
