Hi Moondoong. Its the right thing to do as all economists are saying that now is not the right time to go for surpluses. Too many important things need funding. Glad the government has wised up. HOWEVER-at a political level:

I believe that this will now be a huge setback for the government and changes my opinon of Wayne Swan as Treasurer. He has to be a dimwit to push the surplus so hard and then meekly toss the towel in. Politically no idea. You never know they may come out the better for it because now they can produce an election budget without tightening the belt. But whoever was behind continuously pushing the surplus barrow needs a boot up the backside. If it was Gillard imo she should be replaced.

I support Malcolm Turnbull as the best person to lead the coalition to a certain victory but I now feel Gillard should hand over the reins to another contender also. This issue for me is the final straw. not the AWU 20 year old nonsense but the strategically important economic issues impacting this country. To constantly sprout surplus then cave in so soon after such sprouting shows a lack of mature thinking.

    Unbelievable!!!
