Mining companies that rely on overseas suppliers to operate in South Africa would also be affected by a proposal in the charter that they must buy 70 per cent of their equipment from black-owned companies in the country.
Rising costs, red tape and political uncertainty have made mining groups increasingly wary of investing in South Africa, in spite of the country hosting the world’s largest platinum reserves
