BROKER NEWS - 23/10/2006
Following a briefing the broker remains favourable towards the long-term outlook for the petroleum division, but suggests delivering on production targets in the near-term is likely to prove difficult. Delays to the Atlantis project has seen the broker cut its profit forecast for the group in 2007 by 1.3% to US$13.4bn and in 2008 by 2% to US$12.6bn. Valuation falls to $20.73 from $20.81.
Target price is $34.00. Current Price is $27.75. Difference: $6.25 - (brackets indicate current price is over target). If BHP meets the ABN Amro target it will return approximately 18% (excluding dividends, fees and charges - negative figures indicate an expected loss).
