Ask yourself one question....How much would you pay for a tracking system that can precisely plot the trajectory of an incoming warhead and then give precise co-ordinates to the Kill Vehicle? Yep....you would pay anything!!
Current radar technology cant plot as well as the laser tracking system and hence the high failure rate of current missile defence Kill Vehicles.
The added benefit of this technology is that while missiles arnt flying around, these lasers are pointing into space and tracking space debris. Whichever direction you point these lasers they just ring the cash register $$$$$$
