bright's intentions

It remains unclear to me how firm or certain the proposal from Bright Foods is for CSR's sugar assets. Bright seems to be continuing to probe the waters prior to the court case and the demerger (if it occurs) without making a committed conditional offer. Maybe it is testing CSR management's resolve on price or to proceed with the split, or it is trying to flush out the extent of interest from any other potential buyers prior to separation. Perhaps the emergence of a firm competitive offer from another party could be enough to prompt Brights into making a definite appealing bid (if they are genuine). With rising softs markets and the possibility of competing buyers emerging after any demerger, if Brights are so keen to snare the sugar business sooner rather than later, then it might be better for them to deliver a solid knockout offer (with a control premium) now to get CSR management to seriously consider it.
Presently, subject to regulatory obstacles being overcome, it still appears to me that a demerger will give shareholders the best chances to maximise any value for the sugar assets.
