Does anyone remember double parking? Stopping in the middle of the main street, ignition on, kids in the back (no seatbelts, of course, because there weren't any), and run into a shop and get some milk or bread. I often have to remind myself these days to turn the ignition off and take the keys when I stop at a 7-11. Some of those old habits were probably not bad habits- no-one worried about the car being nicked, the kids being nicked, or any such thing.

And yeah, pelican, the days of doors wide open: I do it sometimes where I live- in a unit block- because I know everyone so well here, and trust them all, but ya don't want to seem to be intruding upon *them* by an open door policy- which is kind of strange, I guess. Still, it's always about trust, and it's good when you have it.
