Online dating link to Vic woman's attack

A MELBOURNE woman bashed so viciously that her injuries were like those of a car crash victim might have been attacked by someone she had met through online dating.

Shey Webber was found bloodied and unconscious in her Warranwood home, with police saying her attacker might have been someone she had met through online dating.

A courier notified authorities after noticing blood on the hallway tiles while trying to deliver a package to the home on November 6.

Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Guy said Ms Webber's injuries were horrific and "life changing".

"The injuries that Shey sustained one could say would be consistent with a car accident," Det Sen Sgt Guy told reporters on Thursday.

    "It was very, very vicious."

Police say they are trawling through hundreds of online dating profiles and encourage those who had messaged the victim to come forward.

"Currently we know Shey was active on various dating websites and had been in contact with a variety of people," Det Sen Sgt Guy said.

As a result of her injuries, Ms Webber has not been able to communicate with authorities and is being kept under sedation at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Ms Webber's father, Ashley Webber, said the prognosis for her recovery was unknown.

"We just hope she's listening to us," Mr Webber said.

Her mother, Ainsley Webber, said the family was in shock.

"She's the one who organises the Christmas celebrations with the family," Ms Webber said.
