Really it all starts in the home and at school. These days at school violent students are not adequately disciplined.

By discipline I do not recommend thrashing them with the cane, but rather giving them in-school suspension and extensive counselling and the making reparations to those they have harmed. Out of school suspension is more like a holiday to some of the thugs at school and is no punishment at all.

Too often (in fact most of the time) violent and seriously disruptive kids are just left in the classroom and continue preventing everyone else to learn, and terrorize the class.

Students have far more rights than teachers, and the higher ups will often back the poorly behaved kid against the teacher, which leads to the kid thinking it is find to behave very badly. They continue this attitude beyond school.

We need to get a lot tougher much earlier on in my opinion, on bad behaviour which harms others. Send the culprits a clear message there are consequences! This just isn't happening anymore. In fact behaviour is so bad in some schools that it really impacts on learning in a serious way.

Teachers should not have to deal with being terrorized by thugs in their classrooms. Their job is to teach.
