    'I don't think protection and tariffs are a bad thing.'

    Well, we have tariffs and protectionism just we call them patents, intellectual property, trade mark, etc.

    Any industrial activity covered by the above umbrella is protected and will be under the new trade agreement proposed to be signed by the Australian government.

    But other industries such as manufacturing, retail, tourism, etc are open to global competition.

    I don't see a problem with global competition as long as we 'save people' by providing them with jobs, all types of jobs. But - i see a problem where we 'protect' certain occupations, certain industries (finance-banking?) at the detriment of others.

    I really don't know when it became a crime to be poor? And when it became glorious to be rich. When did we started measuring people's worth by the size of their wallets?

    Really hard to believe the economy isn't accelerating....
    when we create 3000 part-time-low-paying jobs.
