Unfortunately a common belief but not true.
People in his electorate voted for him, but only as a Member of Parliament.
It was the Liberal Party that made Tony Abbott Prime Minister, in the same way they replaced him with Malcolm Turnbull.
As much as I disagree with that process, it is not "our" vote, it's the Party's.
It's not a Presidential system.
