I think what GTSMAN is trying to point out is that in terms of the gold distribution, in any gold deposit there is often a spectrum of fine grained gold to coarse gold. Also, the proportion of each that go into forming a gold deposit will have a profound effect on the drilling results and their representativeness of the gold deposit itself.

For all gold deposits in terms of their gold distribution, there is a deposit which is dominated by fine grained (invisible to the naked eye) gold, which is evenly spread throughout the deposit (the 2 km strike zone).

Taking small samples of this deposit, such as with a diamond drill rig, can result in representative and repeatable assay results due to the evenly dispersed nature of the gold. However, to have a gold deposit which has evenly distributed gold in place, is apparently very rare.

At the other end of the spectrum, coarse gold deposits, are very difficult, if not impossible to define in detail using conventional diamond drilling. This is due to the coarse gold existing within a very low surface area and rarely intersected in diamond drilling.

This means that even when the diamond drill hole passes through a high grade gold deposit, there is a chance (possibly as high as 70% or more) that no gold will be intersected.

The implications of the presence of fine gold as GTSMAN is pointing out in this thread, are significant, and confirm several important features about the gold mineralisation at Glen Wills/Sunny side, being that the gold is fined grained as stated: (someone please correct me if I they think I am wrong with my points below?)

    1. The presence of the fine grain gold should allow SML to accurately estimate the amount of fine grained gold present within each ore shoot?

    2. By outlining the mineralised area within these boundaries, development can be optimised and mining dilution can be better controlled.

    3. With regards to course gold, when occurrences of significant amounts of very coarse gold are found in an exploration area that is not generally identified with drilling, this can have an impact of materially under estimating the drill defined resource grade?

    4. The potential effect of only using a drill defined grade, is later reflected in the face sampling data associated with underground test work . So results can sometimes indicate that the face data, and drill hole data can underestimate the total gold content by as much as 100%.
