After Trump entered office he took US foreign policy on a new path of hostility against China, and it became either with the US or against the US. Australia, unlike NZ for instance, did not remain neutral as it historically did, instead it chose a side of "us vs them". Re coal, China's GDP growth in 2022 was 5.8% under lock down, I haven't seen any chart that shows China's blackouts were higher in 2021 compared to previous years, I don't trust the media unless there's statistics to back it up.
