    Saltwater pools do not need sodium hypochlorite to make them safe. To put it simply, they use a chlorinator, of which the electrolytic cell which breaks down salt (NaCl) to release chlorine (Cl2) and requires cleaning every so often with a hydrochloric acid solution.
