Just out of curiosity. What if someone went to a hospital, looked for a terminally ill patient with no wealth and relatives, and politely asked him to buy up all the $.001 shares?
Won't even have to involve bankrupting anyone. All liability disappears when the fellow drops off, and all problems solved (except for Maccas' and Deutsche's)
