With all due respect, I don't think that the role of the SAS in Iraq includes orchestrating fake attacks on police stations. From all reports, they were carrying out covert operations to infiltrate a Basra police unit which they believed had been infiltrated by Shia militia. It appears that the police and the militia worked together to capture the SAS guys which, in my mind, is disturbing to say the least for Iraq. If command thought these SAS guys were going to be executed by their captors - what other choice did the British have???
