Do not equate 'policing actions' with no holds barred war. Many think that the US is weak, however they have shown time and again that they can destroy whatever they WANT to.
Do not confuse not wanting to do something with not being able to.
As for attacking Russia, why would the US do that anyway, no point, Russia is on a long term downward trend with its major money earners (oil and gas) rapidly becoming obsolete, (that's what the other countries are telling us anyway). Where to for Russia when no one needs their oil and gas?
Don't get me wrong, anyone invading Russia is in for a world of hurt, and probably Russia could eventually fend off an invasion by a foreign invader, but they would need time and space to do so.
