”Globally, pneumonia is the most common cause of infectious mortality, with 2 million adults dying from lower respiratory infections in 2015 (2). CAP is an essential consideration in patients presenting with respiratory symptoms. In the UK, 5-12% of patients presenting to primary care with respiratory conditions have CAP (3). In the United States, 80% of CAP are managed as outpatients; and over 8 million CAP patients are admitted to hospital annually, with an overall mortality rate of 8.8% (4)”
