There are worse regimes in power now who are currently committing larger atrocities on a much larger scale. Take for example, a certain dictator who is hellbent on destroying neighbouring countries to transform their landscape for re-population, murdering ordinary civilians on an epic scale and impoverishing his own people alongside those of his vassal states...

.... and of course awarding lots of glittery "victory" medals for it all.
