obviously if you want to limit your investments to a simple buy and hold strategy then your plan is a good one.
Many, myself included, like to use all the tools in the box to get their money working for them.
For me this means having funds set aside for short term trading.
But I have to add year end results expectations are much higher for my short term trading account due to a higher risk profile and extra work involved with day trading.
obviously if you want to limit your investments to a simple buy...
