    In your post you say
    "In recent years, many millions of tonnes of cheap thermal coal has been imported to Auckland and Tauranga for both Huntly power station (Genesis Energy) and Glenbrook steel mill."


    Given that world thermal coal prices have increased by about 100% over the last 2 years and the NZ $ has declined about 12% over the same period giving it less buying power.
    World thermal coal prices have remained high for some time now.
    I just wonder if this may force local uses to have another look at being supplied by north island thermal coal producers again.
    Could be a windfall for BRL on the local front.
    A positive prospect to consider going forward
