Brainchip stated in the CEO address to the AGM in 2015 that it would pursue the ARM business model.

ARM does not make and sell chips it sells Intellectual Property (IP) which you take away and design into your chip then have someone like TSMC build for you.

At the 2021 Ai Field Day presentation available on the web site Anil Mankar stated that Brainchip did not encourage customers to buy the AKD1000 chip and if a customer needed a million chips or more they would strongly recommend they purchased the IP.

The engineering samples and the commercial AKD1000 were primarily produced to show customers this revolutionary technology is real and not a scam. This technology has been considered by many in the industry to be impossible hence this need. When IBM and Intel have struggled how could a little Aussie company do it was the mentality.

As to small orders of the chip Socionext has provided the key to Brainchip being able to get foundry t ime at TSMC when needed and Brainchip announced that Socionext had booked slots for them in advance so they did not expect there to be a problem.
