FRONTIER Resources has landed a 114m intersection grading 0.74 grams per tonne gold and 0.20% copper in its second hole at the Andewa project in Papua New Guinea’s West New Britain province.

The intersection included 19m at 1.86gpt gold and 0.39% copper from a depth of 154m, while the total grades from the surface to a 372m depth yielded 0.36gpt gold and 0.10% copper.

Out of the ongoing 10,000m diamond core drilling program, 2275m had been drilled in six holes while the seventh hole was underway.

The first hole intersected 93.2m at 0.78gpt gold and 0.3% copper starting from a depth of 166.6m, including 48.5m at 1.02gpt gold and 0.38% copper.

Managing director Peter McNeil was involved with development work for the giant Lihir gold mine in PNG and previously said Andewa’s geological and structural location was “conceptually” identical to Lihir’s.

Frontier shares are down half a cent to 13.5c this morning.
