There are many forms of "so called" mail order brides. The type that spring to mind where the first time a couple meet is just before they marry is very rare. In most cases a prospective suitor would either select potential partners from a catalog catain a their picture and a resume of their life experience and aspirations. Later they would be introduced and do what everyone else does when courting a partner.
The "so called" mail order is really a step above a blind date in that both participants get to know something of the other prior to them meeting.
