Surely the point is not whether the remark was racist or sexist, politically incorrect or what, but that you don't attack a political - or business - opponent by attacking their wife or partner. I know Carr had quit but this still is a political remark that was a cheap shot made by a cowardly man, and as such goes to his character. As to whether he was drunk or not I suggest it was a case of "in vino veritas". The remark and the behaviour shows a man who has not come to grip with the 21st century.
