you could say the same thing about all old vs. new technology (sodium battery vs lithium battery, quantum computer vs traditional, fossil fuel vs. renewable) - everyone always overestimates the length of time for old technology to phase out and for new technology to be reliable at an acceptable cost. cobalt will still be around for a while after 10 years i think. my personal opinion on COB is that most, if not all, the upside is from the cobalt in waste streams technology (profit margin still great even if cobalt demand is off a cliff and cobalt price is in the dumpster). if you are just looking at the cobalt mine on a traditional basis there is nothing really amazing about COB in the global market other than its ESG, non-DRC, "ethical" cobalt source from a US allied nation. having said that, this counts for a lot in the current geopolitical environment.
