Still I have no worries about this technology in cars. This specific vehicle has a low range, weighs heaps more than a lithium counterpart and is the size of a smart car. Even all the articles mention that lithium will be used in Performance cars, meaning every car that is bigger.
The problem with sodium Ion batteries is not the cheapness in manufacture. It is the charging cycles. Most notably the P2-O2 phase transition. While many different chemical changes and trials have tried to overcome this, it has failed to come anywhere near the closeness of its lithium counterpart. This car will or battery will end up a throwaway item in 2 to 5 years because of the breakdown in charging cycles, unlike lithium batteries still going 10+ years.
