Queensland's rich endowment of critical minerals makes it well-placed to seize this economic opportunity and service global demand.The Australian Government's recent Critical Minerals Strategy 2023-2030 (see our earlier Insight for more information about the Federal Strategy), has now been followed by the release of the Queensland Critical Minerals Strategy (Strategy).Queensland's critical minerals deposits for base metals such as copper, lead and zinc are well known, but the Strategy also looks to drive development of other critical minerals, including battery minerals and rare earths.The Strategy contains $245 million of initiatives and builds on the Queensland Resources Industry Development Plan, along with other previous announcements to deliver a package specifically targeted at the critical minerals sector.In this Insight, we outline the four key objectives of the Strategy and explore how the government intends to strengthen Queensland's position in the critical minerals global value chain.
