Yeah, i read that too and thought "blimey, i know we're the last to know everything, but this is ridiculous". I didnt think it could be right, but then it is repeated in this bit:
"Garden Island (Western Australia) – secured.
• Proposed location for CETO 3 – the Company’s commercial demonstration plant."
It doesnt say that for either Albany or the SA site. Still, it just doesnt make any sense for it to be in a document on CNM's website, so i dont know what to think.
Perhaps their terminology was just a bit loose. Maybe when they said "commercial demonstration site" they actually meant "commercial test site". But i doubt it.
Whatever, hopefully we get a run of news over the next 4-8 weeks that provides the grand plan in detail and the money to achieve it.
Forgive me my cynicism but why am i not surprised that Rudd would "encourage" CNM towards a site where the REDP grant would help the federally funded Navy - and at the same time deny the state Libs substantial kudos for securing the first site in Albany! Pure Rudd.
After all, isnt it curious how the Albany site has been on the radar for years, while Garden Island burst onto the scene only a couple of months ago (from virtually out of the blue) and yet now seems to be the frontrunner for the first site.
I'm now in the camp that thinks Garden Island will more than likely be the first site, and it has as much to do with Rudd's politics as anything else. Mind you, it's a sensational site, close to Perth and freo, closer to manufacturing infrastructure and skilled workers than Albany (from what i know), with a very good wave resource and with massive opportunities for expansion - so bring it on i say.
(as an aside, the politics behind the binningup power contracts must be incredible for them to have not announced them yet - 15 months after the shortlists were decided.)
(and Butcherboy, i reckon CNM must have decided not to put up that latest Ch9 story on their website. it usually only takes 3 or 4 days for videos to go up, and they are being obsessive about the website at the moment, so they probably thought the facts/implications in it were perhaps a little bit, er, loose. If it's not up tomorrow i doubt it will ever see the light of day again.)
(which is another thing. CNM are always good with updating their website all, but when they are bunging up news reports on the same day they are published (as they are at the moment), something is up. I dont know what it is, but they are pushing the media front with a fair bit of effort. Take that WA Business News article today. Nice, good article, but no news to report on, just a recap of what's been happening. When lots of general, non-news-specific stories start popping up, i begin to wonder why. Maybe CNM are just being as visible as possible with all of these important decisions being made at the moment but I have to say, my gut tells me something else might be brewing).
