Yes Acees, Garden Island is a sensational site. HMAS Stirling / the Department of Defence is a sensational power and water offtake customer. It is close to infrastructure and close to Fremantle. Good wave resources. No cliffs. Potential investors and partners can be flown in to Perth then driven to Fremantle and taken on a short boat ride or even driven across the bridge to Garden Island for a tour (hmmm... assuming access is available - HMAS Stirling is a restricted site I believe). Absolutely sensational.
I would not be surprised that there is an unwritten thing going on between both parties that CNM may get a slight benefit in the REDP selection process if the first customer is a government department. A 'kudos to all' kind of thing. The government wins (i.e. the taxpayer wins) and the company wins. But who knows.
I am betting my left one that CNM wins a grant between $50 and $100 million from the REDP and my right one that Garden Island is the commercial demonstration site for the REDP funding. But it has more or less been announced to investors anyway (via the Patersons report) so the latter is not much of a bet. Albany will have to be the second site I'm afraid, cliffs and all!
