One of my friends was the number one private client broker for a major brokerage in the 1980-90s. Every morning brokers were given a list of buy and sells to aggressively push onto clients. In many cases the analysis was rubbish produced by some junior employee. The idea was to generate as much brokerage as possible not to make their clients wealthy.
