I transferred all my holdings over to SelfWealth (this is NOT a recommendation, there are other options) 6 months ago (they use CHESS sponsorship for Australian shares, otherwise I wouldn't use them). It's incredibly liberating simply being able to trade without the ridiculous fees and the signup for US shares was pain free.

I doubled my RRL holdings yesterday for the grand total of $9.50 brokerage. I'm now literally saving $1,000+ over the course of every year and more importantly I've been free to trade into stocks on a gradual basis without the penalty/consideration of brokerage.

People who wants to buy and sell before T2 settlement expires uses brokers. It is pretty common.
..
Since clients have more holding, it is less risking for broker too (and they make fortune in trade commission)
