I really have no idea why people are prepared to pay upwards of $100 for individual trades when there are better options available. I used to be with one of the banks and spend upwards of $1-$2,000 pa on broker fees. My "lazy tax" was probably over $10,000.
I transferred all my holdings over to SelfWealth (this is NOT a recommendation, there are other options) 6 months ago (they use CHESS sponsorship for Australian shares, otherwise I wouldn't use them). It's incredibly liberating simply being able to trade without the ridiculous fees and the signup for US shares was pain free.
I doubled my RRL holdings yesterday for the grand total of $9.50 brokerage. I'm now literally saving $1,000+ over the course of every year and more importantly I've been free to trade into stocks on a gradual basis without the penalty/consideration of brokerage.
