If you place an order for 50k shares at market price and the market is open and trading (not pre or matching), and only 30k gets filled at the 'market price', the remaining 20k will now sit at whatever price you bought at. If the price goes down again then the remaining amount will get bought, however if the price goes up then your 20k sits in queue at whatever the price you bought at.

    Example:
50k at market price (let's call market price $20)
30k gets hit at $20 then the SP goes higher
20k are left sitting at $20
If price goes back to $20 or lower you will be hit again
If SP stays above $20 you need to change your order to be higher than $20 if you want it all to be hit
